VEMP's Journey to Becoming a Specialist Rollup

VEMP has always strived to push the boundaries of blockchain-based digital experiences. Our focus on on-chain gaming has been defined by a commitment to improving experiences by providing enhanced digital asset ownership, control, and interoperability. From community feedback and our time operating in this space, we've identified that the future of on-chain gaming relies on better network scalability, minimal transaction costs, and a more seamless UX. These core functionalities have not yet been successfully delivered to the game development community. In light of this, we have decided to refocus our efforts to address a more pressing market need and work on providing a specialist gaming rollup to serve a sector that has been predominantly overlooked. Our decision to realign our business strategy and launch a specialized rollup stems from our deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the blockchain and gaming sectors. Initially, we focused on developing immersive on-chain gaming experiences that are fairer and more transparent. We successfully created a dynamic where gamers could genuinely own their in-game digital assets, participate in decentralized digital economies, and contribute to previously gatekept dynamics, such as the funding and development of titles. However, after several years, it became clear that there was a more pressing need for better infrastructure on which player-owned gaming economies could operate.

Our community-driven approach has always been at the core of our strategy. Recognizing that many of our token holders and earliest supporters are connected to devoted community-driven initiatives like Shib, we want to double down and strengthen this connection by providing a specialist network optimized for community-driven on-chain gaming economies. This alignment will provide a more integrated and rewarding ecosystem for our dedicated supporters and position us as one of the leaders in providing the infrastructure to launch player-owned and driven digital economies for various virtual experiences, starting with gaming.

Our logic is simple. We believe that the blockchain industry will eventually revolve around a few main networks, much like how a few major players dominate the smartphone market. However, we also expect to see a diverse ecosystem of specialized rollups and sub-networks within this consolidated landscape to serve specific industry needs. These specialized networks will provide unique advantages tailored to their respective sectors, offering infrastructure and support that general-purpose blockchains simply cannot match. From a developer perspective, Horizon can handle a high volume of transactions without compromising speed or efficiency and with near-zero transaction fees. This is possible due to our unique approach to handling on-chain in-game events and transactions. As your user base and gaming economies grow, Horizon can scale seamlessly, delivering lightning-fast transactional experiences while staying true to the ethos of self-sovereign digital asset ownership. This is especially important in an environment where frequent microtransactions are the norm, like gaming, helping to create more efficient and robust player-owned economies.

To maintain a fast, efficient, and decentralized network, VEMP Horizon will be secured by a community-run network of nodes that will handle transaction processing and keep the network operative. Using a non-linear curve model, the balance of incentives will shift from initial node rewards to transaction fees as the network matures. This transition allows node operators to benefit from supporting the early stages of the network. It ensures a sustainable model as the network moves away from pure token incentives and relies more on transaction fees for revenue. By taking part, operators will play a critical role in upholding the integrity and security of the network, ensuring efficient and scalable operations.
